How am I helping the environment?

In the summer, on very hot days when demand for energy is high, sometimes energy providers need to utilize less efficient and more expensive power plants to accommodate for everyone’s needs. Similarly, on very cold winter days, the natural gas supply gets stretched thin during periods of peak demand, and local or regional capacity challenges can also occur. By participating in an Energy Savings Event, you can help prevent the need to turn on additional, more expensive, and less environmentally-friendly resources, and keep energy reliable and affordable for the whole community.

The Smart Thermostat Program is an excellent example of how each of us can help create a cleaner, more reliable energy future. Success depends on the participation of many individual families, but when combined, the impact is great.
